Using the jam board

This is the running board for the day. It becomes available once a session goes "Live". Put forward the songs you want to play and volunteer for the parts you like.

Reading songs (phone / narrow screens)

Songs are collapsed at first. You see only the song name, artist, status, and a summary of open parts, so you can scan the list quickly. Open a row with the "+" at its left edge to reveal the list of parts.

Joining and leaving a part

Open a song and the per-part spots (slots) line up. Each slot holds one person, first come first served.

▲ You can enter an "Open" slot with "Join". The slot you're in is teal, and you can leave with "Cancel".

• "Open" + "Join": An open slot. Press to enter.
• A slot showing a name: Someone else got there first. You can't press it.
• Your own slot (teal): While the song is still open, you can leave with "Cancel".
• After a song is "Ready": All slots are filled. You can't cancel yourself (it would break up the band). To leave, ask the host to release you.

Requesting a song

Anyone (even unregistered) can request a song they want to play.

1. Press "+ Request a song".
2. With premium, use "Pick from My List" at the top to choose a saved song. It fills in the title, artist, note, and reference URL (see "My List" below). You can edit anything after it fills in.
3. Start typing the song title and suggestions from registered songs appear. Picking one fills in both the title and the artist. If it's not there, just type it in and it's registered as a new song.
4. The note and reference URL are collapsed. Press "Add a note or reference URL" to show them (leave it alone if you don't need them).
5. In "Reference URL (optional)" you can paste a URL for a video you want to play along with (see "Reference URLs" next).
6. In the "Notes (optional)" field you can add a memo such as the key or a remark. The field's own hint reads "Notes, key, etc. (URLs go in the reference URL field)". A URL written here is not turned into a link, so put URLs in the Reference URL field above.
7. Edit the part lineup if needed. Parts appear as small chips that wrap onto the next line. Tap a chip to mark it as the part you'll play (tap again to clear), and use the × on the chip to remove it. Adding Guitar twice makes "Guitar / Guitar 2", for twin guitars. Parts not in the list, like Sax, can be added via "Other (custom)".
8. Finish with "Request". Choosing a part is optional. If you chose one, you join the song on that part the moment you request. You can also just request without picking a part.

My List (premium)

Save the songs you often play and the song request form fills in when you pick one. Four things are saved: the title, artist, note, and reference URL.

• The part lineup isn't saved. It changes with who's there on the day, so you build it each time.
• Up to 50 songs. When it's full, remove one you no longer need.
• Three places open it: "My List" in the menu, your profile screen, and the song request form. They all show the same list.
• Nobody else can see it. It never appears on your public profile.

Reference URLs (a video to play along with)

On the song request screen, press "Add a note or reference URL" to reveal the "Reference URL (optional)" field (it is collapsed by default). You can attach one URL per request — a video you'd like everyone to reference. Leaving it empty is fine.

• Only a URL is accepted. Anything that doesn't start with http:// or https:// shows "Enter a URL starting with http:// or https://" in red and the request can't be sent as-is. An over-long URL is refused the same way.
• Picking a song title from the suggestions fills in an already-reviewed URL automatically. That only happens while the field is empty, so a URL you typed yourself is never overwritten. When there are two or more candidates, a Choose from saved reference URLs dropdown appears just below the field so you can switch between them.
• A new URL you enter yourself is marked "Awaiting review (shown in other sessions once approved)". It shows on that session's jam board straight away, but it only becomes a suggestion in other sessions after the operator has checked it (so that unwanted videos don't spread).
• On the jam board it appears as a video icon, not as the URL text (hover over it, or press and hold, and it reads "Open reference URL"). Pressing it opens a separate window (your external browser), so the jam board stays open. On wide screens the icon sits to the right of the song title; on narrow screens it appears as a "Reference URL (optional)" button inside the expanded song.
• URLs that stop working are dropped automatically. If a video is deleted, a daily check finds it and the icon disappears with it (only after it fails repeatedly, so a temporary outage won't remove it).

About the "song stages"

If everyone could freely jump into songs from the start, the earliest movers would monopolize the opportunities. To prevent that, songs open up in stages. The Join button is always shown, but if you can't enter yet at the current stage, pressing it displays the reason.

• Songs not open yet: Requests haven't started yet.
• Song requests open: The stage where each person puts forward their own song. The person who posted joins on their own part (you can't join others' songs yet).
• Join others' songs: You can join others' songs too, on your participation part.
• Open to all: You can join any song, on any part.

Song status and order

The badge on a finished song reads "Played", while "Done" is the heading of the group it moves into. Songs are ordered from the top as "Playing → Ready → Open → Done" (those four are the group headings). The serial number before a song name counts only songs still to be played, so it's a rough guide to how many are left. "Playing" stays pinned to the top even as you scroll, so you can instantly see what's being played now.

These badges are advanced by the host (or a co-host). Nothing a participant does changes them (→ Running the session).

Leaving

There's a "Leave" button at the top right of the jam board. Pressing it removes all your slots at once and returns you home (it won't pull you out of a song that's currently playing). Songs that had become Ready go back to Open.
